Peroclu1 project
With the current project PeroClu1 the next decisive step is now taken: the targeted upscaling of perovskite solar cells. The project is receiving substantial initial funding – with funding by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWE) as well as from Ministry of Economics, Labor and Tourism Baden-Württemberg. PeroLu1 is thus sending a clear signal for the industrial future of this key technology.

The competence cluster is to implement the production of Perovskite-thin-layer-modules by setting up an industry-related and inter-institutional production technology center for the Baden-Württemberg and German photovoltaic industry. The focus is on increasing efficiency (1), sustainability (2) and rapid transfer (3) in the application.
This project has two main goals:
- Preparation of a competence cluster of the participating institutes (ZSW, IPV/UST, KIT) to be developed in the medium term following the preparatory project outlined here.[see appendix 1]. The aim of the present project is to demonstrate a decentralized production line for the production of perovskite solar modules with scalable manufacturing processes.
- Demonstration of perovskite thin-layer solar modules fabricated exclusively using scalable manufacturing processes over an area of up to 20 x 20cm2. The focus is on three aspects: (1) the stability of the technology, (2) scalable manufacturing processes and (3) ‘Ecodesign principles’.
The acceleration of technology transfer and product development over the entire value chain is carried out in the cluster through
- complementary expertise and resources
- coordinated process and technology chains and division of labor
- optimal use of resources
- spatial proximity.
The cluster should as an internationally visible lighthouse project for employees as well as companies and startups form an attractive ecosystem with a lasting effect from training to research and development to production, see Fig. 1.

The goals of the PEROCLU1 project are
- Preparation of the competence cluster and demonstration of a decentralized manufacturing platform
- Development of a decentralized ‘plug-in process chain’ between the institutes IPV, KIT and ZSW, which allows new materials, new manufacturing processes, encapsulation concepts, characterization methods and component architectures for perovskite solar modules on a surface up to 20 x 20 cm2 to integrate.
- Perovskite modules in thin film technology up to 20×20 cm2 With
- industry-relevant coating techniques and
- Evaluated stability in accelerated aging tests and outdoor tests.
- Stable architecture with T90 after 1000h, output value 23% for cells
- with module efficiencies > 17%
